A native of Wooster, Dr. Owen Logee, MD, FAAOS received his BS in Anatomy from The Ohio State University and his MD from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Logee completed his internship and orthopaedic residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. in 1975. He served as Assistant Chief of Orthopaedics at Silus B. Hayes Hospital at Fort Ord, California before returning to Wooster in 1977 to establish Wooster Orthopaedics, a solo practice in orthopaedic surgery. A former Chief of Staff of Wooster Community Hospital, Dr. Logee was joined in his practice by James W. Gesler, MD, FAAOS in 1983. M.J. Logee, MD, MS completed a sports medicine fellowship in rehabilitation at Ohio State University and joined the practice in 1992, prompting the addition of new services and the changing of the practice's name to Wooster Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center. As the new center continued to grow, William J. Skelly, M.D., FAAOS came on board in 1994 followed by Rodney A. Miller, MD, FAAOS, in 2000; Michael S. Knapic, DO in 2002, and Jonathan A. Kase, M.D. in 2007. Dr. Skelly has since relocated out-of-state and Dr. Owen W. Logee has retired.
In July 2008, Wooster Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center moved into their new facility on Commerce Parkway. The Physical Therapy department is housed within the facility and adjacent to the building is the Wooster Ambulatory Surgery Center. Practice Manager, Elsie Hydash, described their services and staff as follows;
Wooster Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center offers a multi-disciplinary approach to the care and treatment of orthopaedic problems. As specialists in disorders of the muscles and bones of the skeletal system, we provide our patients with a wide range of services and treatment alternatives under the care of our well-trained and experienced staff members. With offices in Wooster, Orrville and Millersburg, our practice addresses the treatment of fractures, joint replacement, wrist and hand problems including carpal tunnel syndrome, foot disorders, and bunion surgery. We provide solutions for the management of arthritis, disorders and surgery of the back and neck, arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction, and sports medicine from prevention to rehabilitation. Recently added to our on-site services is MRI and Bone Density scanning. We've managed to couple high-quality orthopaedic care with excellent, personalized service for our patients throughout Wayne and Holmes Counties.
In addition to the services of our four orthopaedic surgeons and our sports medicine rehabilitation specialist, our team of caregivers is augmented by licensed physical therapists and certified athletic trainers. Upon receiving a prescription from one of our physicians, our physical therapists perform comprehensive evaluations and develop treatment plans including modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hot and cold packs, and iontophoresis, as well as an individualized therapeutic exercise program, manual therapy techniques, and education of self-management. Our goal in physical therapy is to reduce pain and restore optimal function for our patients.
With a unique program to oversee the medical needs of the community's competitive and recreational athletes, Wooster Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center has the capabilities of providing care to active individuals of all ages. We have the latest techniques for treatment and rehabilitation at our disposal such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, MENS, hydrotherapy, biofeedback, iontophoresis, BAPS, functional exercises, as well as home exercise instruction. Our certified athletic trainers are contracted with many local activity centers in addition to several area high schools.
All of our physicians and physical therapists are approved providers and are Bureau of Workers' Compensation certified. They accept assignment from Medicare, participate in several managed care plans, and will see new patients as well as referrals from other physicians. Our surgeons have staff privileges at Wooster Ambulatory Surgery Center, Wooster Community Hospital, Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg, and Dunlap Community Hospital in Orrville.
Our goal is to provide the highest level of personal and professional care in the area. We strive to treat all of our patients with dignity and respect in a professional and caring office environment and our office always has a doctor on-call. We have state-of-the-art technology and can provide a level of care that's typically only found in large, metropolitan areas.
The Wooster Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center doctors reside in the local community and spend many hours each year in community service. One of our state laws requires a physician be available at every football game and our doctors volunteer their time to enable the community to meet this requirement. James W. Gesler, MD, FAAOS, has been the team physician for Northwestern High School since 1983. Michael S. Knapic, DO, is team physician for Wooster High School. M.J. Logee, MD, MS, is a team physician for Triway High School and Assistant Team Physician for The College of Wooster. Rodney A. Miller, MD, FAAOS, is team physician for West Holmes, and Jonathan A. Kase, M.D. is team physician for Orrville High School.
