As the former owner of the Liberty House Hotel, Bob Flickinger began installing tanning beds in empty hotel rooms. As the tanning beds grew in popularity, Bob opened his first tanning salon, Tan U Tanning, at 416 East Liberty Street. The Liberty Street location was moved to 3481 Cleveland Road and other facilities were opened at 429½ East Liberty and 4146 Burbank Road in the Chesterland Plaza. In 2001, the tanning business, which had grown to include a wholesale division, was split into two businesses with the wholesale channel retaining the Tan U Tanning name and the salons being renamed as Sunset Lane Tanning. We met with Bob recently and listened as he gave us an overview of his salons' offerings;

Sunset Lane Tanning is the largest tanning operation in the local area. Each of our three locations features top of the line tanning beds and retail sales of giftware, tanning lotions, body jewelry, and lingerie. With a cheerful, friendly staff, we provide a professional tanning experience and our parking facilities are some of the best in the area. We were voted by National Trade Magazine as one of the top 250 salons in the country for 2003 and 2004.

In addition to our tanning beds, we also have stand-up units and provide our customers with a full listing of options from single tanning sessions to monthly packages which can be used at any of our three locations. All of our tanning is done on a walk-in basis and reservations are neither required nor available. We can help you maintain your tan year 'round or develop a tan for a special occasion. Our beds range from 28 to 70 lamp units and we regularly change our bulbs in the middle of their useful life to make sure each one always has a good, strong output. Face tanners are standard on all of our beds (except stand-up unit) and our units are always exceptionally clean. You won't find outdated equipment at Sunset Lane Tanning!

Our staff are all certified through the National Tanning Training Institute and trained to assist you in choosing the perfect lotion for your tanning level, preference, and budget. We carry tanning lotions from Australian Gold®, Swedish Beauty®, and Caribbean Gold® which are regarded as the best in the industry.
