A Sense of Style Pet Grooming opened in January 2004 to provide the Rittman area with a source for reliable, affordable pet grooming. Owned by Debra Marshall and lifelong Rittman resident Robin Evans, A Sense of Style provides grooming service for all breeds and sizes of dogs and cats. Debra's love of animals is well known throughout the local community and Robin's eight years working at a local veterinary clinic combine perfectly in this joint venture. Their grooming service includes the clip, bath, drying, trimming of toenails, checking their teeth, cleaning out their ears, and applying a cologne that leaves them smelling fresh for a long time. A lot of breeds have hair growing in their ears that has to be removed to prevent the ears from developing an infection. They apply an ear powder to aid in the removal of the hair and also to help keep moisture from coming back into the ear canals. Debra and Robin recommend that pet owners spend time playing with their pet's ears and feet to help their pet become comfortable with having them handled while they're being groomed. Sometimes cats just don't clean themselves the way they should and need to be professionally groomed. A Sense of Style Pet Grooming bathes, dries, and brushes them, removing the matted or tangled hair the cats can't remove themselves. They'll clip their toenails just like they do for dogs and they'll clean their ears. Often, long hair cats have hair so matted that they have to shave them down and start over. This cut is called a "lion cut" and they leave the hair on the cat's head, shave the entire body and most of the way up the tail, while leaving a little pom at the tip that resembles a lion's tail. They're really cute. Quite a few of their customers have their cats shaved every few months. Cats are not the easiest to groom because rather than wanting to stand, they want to lay down, and, since their skin is like tissue paper, Debra and Robin exercise extra care while working with them. Often, cats are not very cooperative while being groomed so A Sense of Style uses kitty muzzles and claw protectors to protect the groomers from being bitten or scratched. Another service they offer while grooming is expressing your pet's anal glands. Some dogs and cats go their entire lives without needing it done and others need it done ever month or two. When their anal glands fill up, you'll notice them scooting along on the ground or fussing with that area a lot. Many people take their pets to the vet to have these glands expressed, but, A Sense of Style Pet Grooming provides this service as well. In addition to grooming services, you'll find an interesting selection of pet paraphernalia available at A Sense of Style from stainless steel mugs featuring pictures of just about every breed of dog to candles showing the different breeds. They have dog and cat beds, doggy car seats, sweatshirts and t-shirts, and a line of leashes and collars guaranteed to be replaced if chewed by your four legged friend. The well groomed pet in the Rittman area now has a monthly standing appointment at A Sense of Style Pet Grooming. Call Debra and Robin to schedule an appointment today and you'll receive five dollar off on your next appointment by telling them that The Advocate sent you! |
