Your Business Deserves a Service Like This!

In the early 1990s, Robert "Butch" Rogers, was building his accounting practice and Phil Sherwood was keeping busy designing software for the growing computer industry. Good friends for years, Butch and Phil began to discuss local companies' need for a professional payroll service that offered afford-ability, confidentiality, reliability, and convenience. In 1994, they opened PayServe, Inc. with a goal of becoming the "Payroll Department" to local businesses both large and small. After nearly a decade of solid growth, PayServe, Inc. continues to set the standard for payroll solutions while building their reputation for honesty and character. We were recently given a tour of PayServe's facilities by Vice President Brad Mullen who explained their growth and services with these words;

In 1996, I had just graduated from the University of Akron with my degree in accounting and was looking for work as a CPA. I had dropped a resume off with Butch Rogers, and, out of the blue, he called me and wanted to get together to talk. After our discussions, Butch offered me the job of overseeing the daily operation and growth of PayServe, Inc. and I've been here ever since. When I first started, we were a very small company operating from a one room office with one computer, one printer, one box of paper, and twenty-four customers. It's been very interesting to watch the company grow in size and in scope, and, we're very proud of the fact that twenty of our original customers are still with us.

As PayServe, Inc. grew, our need for more space prompted us to move from the Benden Building into larger quarters where we picked up another four rooms and an additional employee. When we moved, we thought our new facility was absolutely huge, but, before long, we found ourselves out of room again. In 1999, we began talking about building the facility we're in now and Butch began negotiations with Stephan Garcia to establish a financial services division that could bridge the gap between his CPA practice and our payroll service. Eagle Pass Business Center was built to be the home of Rogers CPA Group, PayServe, Inc., and Lifetime Financial Advisors and through our affiliation, we are able to handle all of our clients' business needs from payroll to accounting, bookkeeping, and retirement planning. In 2002, Core Business Solutions run by Robert Close became part of our affiliation extending our offerings to business software applications, also.

By the end of PayServe's first year in business, they had established a grand total of eight customers and issued approximately seventy-five W-2 forms for their customers' employees. By the time we moved into our new facility in 2000, we had one hundred twenty-five customers, and today, PayServe, Inc. services over two hundred seventy-five clients throughout Wayne, Stark, and Holmes Counties and issues approximately eight thousand W-2 forms for our clients.We pay an average of between four and five thousand people each week and even have client companies as far away as Sandusky and Cleveland Heights.

Our area of expertise is the small businesses that range in size from one to twenty-five employees including both corporations and sole proprietorships. We tailor our services to the size and needs of each client and we try to function just as an "in house" payroll department would. Our clients phone in their employee times, we produce the payroll, and they can either pick it up or we can mail it back to them by the following day. When their payroll arrives, all they have to do is to record the payroll amount in their checkbook and they can get back to focusing on their daily operations. We walk them through establishing their Workman's Comp, State Unemployment, State Withholding, City Withholding, and Federal Withholding. Our clients receive their checks ready to be handed to their employees and we also offer direct deposit for those who are interested. We offer a turnaround service that allows them to send any type of payroll related forms to us and we will fill them out and return them to the client for their signature or for them to send to their accountant. We provide them with a familiar voice to answer their questions and keep them from getting overloaded with compliance paperwork.

PayServe, Inc. has been building a reputation for excellent service from the very beginning. Our employees have been carefully chosen and are dedicated to serving our customers and providing them with highly accurate payroll services. By focusing on taking care of our clients first, we've found that our company grows by reputation and referrals from our existing clients.

There isn't a business owner alive who doesn't realize the headaches involved in dealing with the myriad of forms, regulations, and filing dates that are part of the payroll process. When you're ready to concentrate on running your business rather than filling out forms and reading regulations, call Brad Mullen at PayServe, Inc. and don't forget to tell him that The Advocate sent you!
