Lanny Chio's family has a tradition steeped in the building trades. From his grandfather to his own son, his family has built an enviable name for quality that spans over seventy years. We recently visited with Lanny and listened while he told of Nu-Way Construction's history and services;
Nu-Way Construction, Inc. has actually been in the construction business since back in the 1930s. My grandfather was building the Sullivan school during the depression and his company became known as G. C. Butler & Son. As the company grew, they began to build houses and renamed the company as Nu-Way Housing. While most of their work was residential, the company began to undertake more commercial work in the late 1960s and was being run by two of my uncles and my mother who had worked with my grandfather. In 1973, my uncles retired and my brother Jerry and I ran the company until 1989 when Jerry left to become a building inspector. Jerry's son Stephn came into the business almost twenty years ago and twelve years ago my own son Jason came on board. The company is now in its fourth generation. We run the company as a family business but we make sure our employees all feel like part of the family. They always have been and always will be our greatest asset.
Nu-Way Construction, Inc. specializes in the erection of commercial and industrial metal buildings. We provide both turn-key solutions by operating as the project's General Contractor and we provide contracting services to other contractors. We've set up steel for water park rides, buildings at universities, and we've handled the steel erection for manufacturing plants over 350,000 square feet in size.
Over the years, building owners would contact us when they were having problems with the built-up roofs on their buildings. From researching the industry, we knew that during the 1970s, roofing products had radically changed in response to the rising cost of oil and single-ply roofing became a new industry standard. As these roofs began to fail, we began to offer solutions based on the Duralast roofing products. Duralast is a proven leader in supplying the industry with roofing products that are unsurpassed and they provide one of the best warranties on the market. Repairing a roof with their products has been our key to satisfying our customers need for dependable, maintenance-free roofs.
Another part of our roofing business that has undergoing rapid growth over the past few years is the installation of standing seam metal roofing systems. Standing seam metal roofs are a twenty to thirty year product and have proven to be completely maintenance-free. Architects are beginning to specify this system in their plans and we've completed many installations throughout the area including the standing seam roof for the exterior walkways at the Wayne County Administration Building.
Last year we expanded our masonry services and now have a crew that concentrates on masonry work full-time. As it becomes harder to find qualified masons, having our own crew of trained masons has enabled us to handle the masonry requirements of many projects and provides our customers with a dependable source for their masonry needs.
From pouring concrete footers to installing the roof, our employees are qualified to handle everything that would totally enclose a building. Our goal is to be competitively priced while developing a reputation for the high-quality workmanship that makes Nu-Way Construction, Inc. the contractor of choice. The key to our business has been our customers talking to other business owners and telling them how we repaired their roof or put up their building and we were always on time and did a great job. Those referrals are priceless!
