Wired for Success

Michael McClintock, President of McClintock Electric, Inc., has seen each and every step of the phenomenal growth of the company his father founded in the early sixties. He was there when they were storing supplies in the chicken coop and he was there when they moved to their current location a few short years later. He's seen the company grow from one employee to well over thirty, and he's not only seen but also helped engineer their growth from small residential work to technologically advanced projects for the likes of IBM. Join us as Mike blueprints his company's stellar growth;

McClintock Electric, Inc. was founded by my father Ralph McClintock out of his house on Oak Hill in 1963. He started as a one man outfit doing residential wiring and he believed in making the company into a family business with everyone starting at the bottom and working their way up. My own career with the company began by helping my father unload the van and putting the material on the shelves in our garage and our neighbor's chicken coop when I was five years old. By the time I was eight or nine years old, I was going with him on jobs and learning what was involved in wiring a house. My father's sister Glenna came to our house one day while my dad was typing invoices on an old manual typewriter in the basement. As she made fun of his lack of typing skills , he told her to sit down and type them herself if she thought she could do better. Glenna sat down, typed the invoices, and continued to hold the office together until she retired just a few years ago. Our first employee Larry Steele was hired during my father's second week in the business and Larry is still with us today. As you can see, we're truly a family style operation!

As our name implies, McClintock Electric, Inc. does all types of electrical work serving mainly commercial and industrial accounts. Our customers range from Frito Lay to Wayne Dalton Door, Smuckers, and The College of Wooster. We handle residential service changes like replacing switches and installing and repairing household circuits. Although our primary focus is electrical contracting, we've added new services to our offerings including installation, service, and repair of fire alarm systems, computer cabling systems, trenching, and business telephone, voice-mail, and automated attendant systems.

I developed my interest in technology while studying for my Associates Degree in Electronic Technology at the University of Akron. At the beginning of the technology boom in the early 1990s, we were contacted by IBM as they searched for a local contractor to install network cabling at the Rubbermaid plant. We accepted the job of installing IBM's proprietary network cabling system in Rubbermaid's Research and Development Department and ended up re-cabling the better part of the plant, including installing a fiber backbone. Both Rubbermaid and IBM were very impressed with our work which resulted in our traveling across country cabling all of Rubbermaid's plants. The Rubbermaid job led to doing the same thing for Smuckers and we ultimately cabled all of their plants throughout the United States, too. We were fortunate to be right at the cusp of the whole technology boom and we've since installed literally hundreds of miles of network cabling. As telephone systems, voice-mail systems, and computer systems began to converge into one massive communication network, we began installing telephone and voice-mail systems and are now rapidly becoming involved in implementing VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol, or, Internet Telephony) solutions for our customers as well.

In the State of Ohio only certified installers can legally install fire alarm systems (systems that manually or automatically notify the fire department or sound an alarm if there is a fire). McClintock Electric keeps at the forefront of this changing industry by having our employees receive the necessary training to obtain their certification licenses, enabling us to handle a wide array of fire alarm system installations including projects for The College of Wooster.

McClintock Electric, Inc.'s advantage is that we have the capability to handle a complete electrical installation from A to Z whether it's for production, administration, manufacturing, or warehousing. We cover all facets of installation in-house from design through installation. We handle the trenching of the service to the building in addition to the electrical installation and the installation of the telephone, voice-mail, paging, fire alarm, and computer cabling and networking systems. We cover all the bases and can even sell the active components that allow these systems to operate. We interface with the power company and the telephone company and can effect a very convenient, one-stop shopping experience for our customers.

McClintock Electric, Inc. is the company to call for all your electrical, computer cabling, fire alarm installation, and phone system needs. When you're looking for a trusted contractor that can handle the job properly from start to finish, call McClintock Electric, Inc. and don't forget to tell them that The Advocate sent you!
