When I was sixteen, I had a small painting business and went to a CPA to have my taxes done. When he told me how much it would cost, I just about fell out of the chair. From that experience, I decided that when I went to college I would study accounting so I could provide tax and financial services for people without charging them an arm and a leg.
After completing my accounting and business training, I received my licenses for various financial fields including my securities license and my license to sell life and health insurance. I began providing my customers with high quality, affordable accounting and tax services just like I had planned by opening Sustar and Associates in 1976. In 1982, my wife and I incorporated the business and changed the name to DataView Tax Service, Inc. but our mission of doing good work for affordable prices has always remained the cornerstone of our business.
DataView Tax Service, Inc. handles all types of tax work for a client list of over 2,600 including individuals, corporations, and partnerships. We're one of the largest tax preparation firms in the Wooster area and we provide our clients with a combination of service atmosphere that can't be duplicated by the nationally advertised firms.
One of the differences at DataView is our while-you-wait tax preparation service. When our clients make an appointment with one of our five tax preparers and come in with all of their needed paperwork, our special software and our expertise enable us to meet with them, do their taxes, and hand them a completed tax return when they leave our office. All of our preparers are very experienced and our clients appreciate knowing that their taxes weren't done by someone who just got out of school last week. Each of our preparers has their own separate office with a door that can be closed for your privacy. With DataView Tax Service, Inc., your taxes are never done in the middle of a large room with everybody looking over your shoulder or in the middle of a temporary department store setting.
We provide a clean, family oriented atmosphere and offer rates that are from one half to two thirds of those charged by any other major tax preparer. Most of our work is done by appointment and we've built an impressive reputation for the unique service we provide for our walk-in clients. When walk-ins come into our office, they sign in on a sheet of paper and, if there are a lot of people in front of them, they can leave the building, go shopping, or go out for lunch and when they come back, their name will still be on the list. If we've already passed their name on the sign in sheet, they have priority and their taxes will be done by the next available preparer. In addition, we have plenty of parking available and we offer 24 to 48 hour refunds for our clients who receive W-2 forms.
In contrast to many of the national firms, we don't close our doors after tax season. When our clients have a tax problem or question in September, they know they can call us and we'll still be here. Our telephones are always answered in person and you never get an answering machine during office hours when you call. Throughout the year, we're a one-stop financial service company and remain busy providing financial advisory services. I'm a Certified Senior Adviser and I work with senior citizens on their retirement programs. When most seniors come in with their retirement funds, they're tired of the fluctuations in the market and losing money through investments. We're known as "the safe money people" and we show them how to invest their money in products having a guaranteed principle and guaranteed interest while still getting market rates.
