Carving a Niche in Custom Carpentry

Growing up doing woodworking with his father, Larry Prebis found his talent for custom carpentry blossomed as a member of the Medina County Historical Society. The Society asked Larry to build and install five new screen doors for the 1886 Victorian house they were renovating. As visitors saw the doors while touring the house, Larry's reputation began to build. By 1986 he was building these doors as a part-time endeavor, and in April of 2000 he founded Architectural Trimwork to create, replicate, and build whatever custom pieces his customers desire. We visited with Larry recently, and listened as he described the services his company offers;

Architectural Trimwork offers a wide variety of woodworking products for both century homes and new homes. I custom fabricate interior and exterior trimwork, as well as other wood items. All products are custom made in whatever sizes you require, and if you're looking for pieces duplicated from those already in your home, I can replicate them in my shop and install them for you.

I make authentic wood screen doors, storm doors, spindles, and porch spandrels and brackets, in addition to wood screens, wood storm windows, replacement windows, gable ornaments, decorative scrolled brackets, and latticework. All of my products are made from solid wood, whether it be yellow pine, Douglass fir, poplar, cherry, walnut, oak, or whatever wood suits your needs and preferences. All of these products can be made to fit any size opening. I've produced double doors, louvered door, and doors up to eight feet tall and four feet wide. I can duplicate anything you desire, including trimwork found in your home originally.

Typically on restoration projects, you have to buy products through a magazine, and they might not be wood, but plastic or vinyl instead. They won't be custom fit, and either you or your builder will have to fit them yourself. At Architectural Trimwork all of our products are solid wood and custom made so they will fit as if they were always part of your home. I offer the service of coming to your home, taking the actual measurements, installing the completed pieces for you, and protecting your investment with a one year guarantee.

I have recently expanded my services to include restoring antique wooden speed boats. I currently have three boats from the 1940s and 1960s in my workshop. As a member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, I know that there are a number of these boats still out there, and that many are being restored and brought back to life. I enjoy being able to take an old boat and bring it back to its former glory, much like being able to restore a century home to its original beauty.

Architectural Trimwork can fulfill all your custom carpentry needs, from decorative trim to custom-made doors and windows. Call Architectural Trimwork today, and don't forget to tell them The Advocate sent you!
