The Doorway to Amish Country

Starting with a 48 seat restaurant in Wilmot, Ohio, Milo and Kathryn Miller have grown their business to include both Wilmot and Wooster facilities. The Wilmot restaurant now seats 450 with a banquet center capable of handling 500 people and a 52 room inn. The Wooster restaurant, opened in 1999 in the space formerly occupied by the Chuck Wagon Restaurant, holds 360 in the main dining rooms with two banquet rooms of the second floor seating up to 200. Chairman of the Board Joseph Miller and General Manager Amanda Miller agree that the key to their growth has been the combination of top quality food coupled with superior service, both served liberally and consistently. As we visited, Amanda described the enticing farce that keeps the restaurant filled on a daily basis;

The Amish Door specializes in casual family dining and facilities to accommodate our local residents, banquets, corporate functions, and motor-coach groups. Everything we serve is homemade in our own kitchen or our bakery, and we have 100 employees dedicated to upholding our reputation for fine food and friendly service.

Our full service bakery produces a variety of homemade breads including white, whole wheat, cinnamon, cheese, and raisin bread. We have an extensive variety of pastries such as donuts, cream sticks, cinnamon rolls, homemade fudge, and the biggest and best apple fritters around! Our scrumptious fruit pies include apple, Dutch apple, peach, cherry, blueberry, black raspberry, and raisin plus our famous Katie's Brown Bag Apple Pie which is actually baked in a brown paper bag. We also have pecan and custard pies. We offer peanut butter, chocolate, coconut, and red raspberry cream pies. You'll find old-time favorites here like apple dumplings, delicious date pudding, and our Buggy Trail Sundae which is made with our own peanut butter whip, hot fudge, whipped cream, and peanut butter crumbs.

From 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. daily, we offer our breakfast buffet which features over 20 items including fresh fruit, pastries, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and corn meal mush. Monday through Wednesday we have a luncheon buffet with a changing menu, and our dinner buffet is served Thursday through Saturday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m.. It's filled with broasted chicken, ribs, genuine mashed potatoes, dressing, and many more of our customers' favorite dishes. Our fresh salad bar contains over thirty items and from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. daily we serve sandwiches and an assortment of entreés such as our famous broasted chicken, our mouth-watering roast beef, and our ever-popular Swiss steak.

Most of our cooks are Amish and, in addition to our buffet, we offer both family style and menu selections. We've recently added the slogan "Amish cooking can be lo-carb, too!" and introduced our new low carbohydrate cheesecake with only 13 net calories per slice. For the adventurous diners, we have a real Amish buggy in our dining room outfitted with a table so you can eat right in the buggy!

For wholesome food, tastefully prepared and lovingly served, The Amish Door is sure to please. On your next trip to Amish country, treat your taste buds by dining at The Amish Door and don't forget to tell them that The Advocate sent you!
